W7 review: eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara

Hellooo again!

I think I have to let go of the idea of having a regular updating schedule, I just can’t keep up with it! I still have lots of ideas, photos and untried/unreviewed products, so I’ll keep posting, but it just won’t be regularly 😛

So. A while ago I received a package from W7, after I participated on a twitter giveaway for bloggers. I’m very glad they sent me these lovely items, and I couldn’t wait to try them!

W7_12

They included a small note, which I thought was totally adorable! I feel kind of guilty for not writing this review earlier, but I really didn’t have time (still don’t have really, but I just HAD to <3)

The items included in this set are:

  • Eyeshadow, Perfect Eyes in Caribbean (couldn’t find a link to the exact shade, but here are some more)
  • Liquid Eyeliner in Black
  • Mascara, Showing Out! in Blackest Black

W7_11 W7_08

First of all, this gorgeous shimmery blue shade of eyeshadow, called Caribbean! It contains 3.5 grams of product, and the texture is very smooth. I’m already in love!

W7_05

And the pigment is incredible too! It lasts quite long on my (super oily) lids, even without a primer. It does crease a bit, but that’s pretty much unavoidable with my eyes.. It does have some fall-out so tap your brush before you put it on your eyelids.

W7_04 W7_09

The eyeliner has a firm felt tip, but you dip it into the pot to get the black liquid out. I haven’t actually tried it on my eyes yet, since I absolutely SUCK at making a winged eyeliner..

W7_03

But as you can see on my hand, this felt tip is GREAT at making fine lines, thick lines, squiggly lines, and is jet-black whilst doing this! I’m absolutely impressed. Especially when I tried to remove it.. this stuff doesn’t budge! I don’t have a good cleanser, but I guess an oil-based remover will take care of this.

Now, onto the mascara! This is a product I use pretty much every day, so I loved getting to test this 🙂 The first thing that stands out about this mascara, is that it’s HUGE! I compared the rubber brush to my finger, and I don’t really have tiny fingers.. Wow! The brush takes up a lot of mascara, which kind of makes it difficult to apply evenly and without clumps. It is however quite easy to wipe the brush on the edge of the bottle, and this makes application much easier and smoother 🙂 Now let’s test the performance of this MOAM (Mother-of-all-mascaras)

W7_14 W7_16

W7_17 W7_20

Top is without, bottom is with mascara, without wiping the brush. I shouldn’t have applied mascara to my bottom lashes, since I was way too twitchy and smudged it all over..

W7_13 W7_15

W7_18 W7_19

Same mascara, but this time I wiped my brush on the bottle.. As you can see, this mascara gives a LOT of volume to my lashes! It also adds quite a lot of length, but I have used mascaras that gave more length. It does take a while for the mascara to dry and you have to be careful not to get clumps, but that still can be fixed with a clean spoolie brush.

All in all, I’m really glad W7 sent me these products (thanks!!), I really am impressed by the quality, since they’re not at all expensive! In the Netherlands, you can get them in some shops (Big Bazaar, Op=Op Voordeelshop) and at www.makeupmusthaves.nl 🙂

L’oreal surprise pack

I like deals, a lot! I check a page that has tons of daily deals and discounts pretty much every day, and my heart jumped a bit when I saw a deal for 4 L’oreal products for €10!

After some doubt, I gave in a few minutes before midnight! A couple of days later, I got this little package in the mail

L'oreal_test_01

The products I got are, from left to right:

  • Colour Riche lipstick in the colour Pure Burgundy (746), which retails for about $9
  • High Intensity Pigments Concentrated Shadow Duo in the colour(s) Sassy (208), which retails for about $4-5
  • Infallible Lipcolour compact in the colour Merlot (710), which retails for about $12
  • Colour Juice Sheer Juicy Lipgloss in the colour Melon Punch (440), which retails for about $3

Now, I’m not a huge fan of lip products, and this box had 3 of them. Even though it was branded as a ‘surprise box’, I still kind of expected more variety, so I emailed the company, and they promised to send me some different products! Big thumbs up for their customer service 🙂

Now, onto the reviews and swatches

L'oreal_test_15

At first you see the two colours of the eye shadow duo. They are branded as ‘High intensity pigments’ (HIP), but they are not really that stunningly pigmented. Don’t get me wrong, they’re good! I think I’ll get a lot of use of these, I absolutely love the colours, and didn’t really have anything like this in my stash.

L'oreal_test_10 L'oreal_test_11 L'oreal_test_12

I’m also in love with the packaging! The packaging is black and sturdy, and has a see-through window so you can see the colours. The bottom compartment has a tiny sponge applicator and a mirror! I only really found out by accident, because I opened the wrong ‘door’ 😛 This makes the eye shadow duo great for travelling!

Now, onto the lip products. I don’t use many lip products, except the occasional lip balm and a bright red lipstick for proms and fancy events and such. This pack contained a lip stick, a very sturdy lipcolour and a gloss.

L'oreal_test_02 L'oreal_test_03 L'oreal_test_04

The lip stick is a lovely deep wine red, called ‘Pure Burgundy’. While this colour is very dark, I think I might wear this! It just looks very chique (just like the packaging <3), but the coverage isn’t perfect. I’m not too sure about the wear time because I didn’t keep it on for long, but the swatch on my arm wiped away pretty easily, so I guess it doesn’t last too long. This is how it looked on my lips (keep in mind, I’m no hero at applying lip stick.. and I also have pretty small lips..). Left are my bare lips, right is with the Pure Burgundy lipstick.

L'oreal_test_17 L'oreal_test_18

It’s semi sheer as you could’ve already seen on the swatch, but it looks quite natural (as far as dark colours look natural xD)

The other lip product in this colour is the Infallible Lipcolour Compact in the colour “Merlot”, which is, obviously, also a wine colour.

L'oreal_test_07 L'oreal_test_08 L'oreal_test_09

The packaging is reflective and can double as a mirror. It contains two tubes that don’t come out entirely, but pop up so you can open them. The coloured tube contains the lip colour, and has a doe-foot applicator. I haven’t tried it on my lips, but I guess it applies pretty nice! The colour is very very intense, and doesn’t budge at all! It dries to a matte finish, and can probably feel very dry on the lips. To add some shine and moisture, they added a lip balm/sealer to seal in the colour. I haven’t actually tried it but it looks like it’d work very well! I’d wear this to a party, because it’ll last you all night!

The last thing in the box was a lip gloss. I have only bought very very cheap lip glosses in the past, and always hated how they felt on my lips..

L'oreal_test_13 L'oreal_test_14

From the packaging it seems like this is a very cheap gloss too, the round applicator doesn’t allow for precise application and just looks and feels cheap. The colour is very bright orange with a lot of shimmer, and the texture is quite thick. On my lips it does feel super sticky, but it’s better than any gloss I ever tried before. The orange isn’t as bright on the lips (see swatch) but the shimmer is pretty noticeable. I actually kind of like it! The name “Melon Punch” probably refers to the smell, because it’s nauseatingly sweet.. Normally I can stand everything sweet, but I just don’t really like it!

To conclude; I quite like the products I got, but I don’t think I’d use them a lot because lip products just aren’t much for me. I’m very curious about the products they’re going to send me, because I kind of started love L’oreal products!

Let me know if you liked this review, I tried to include as many photos and even showed my lips- something I’d never thought I’d do!

Catrice mono eyeshadow – Don’t touch my Mosserati!

Since I started blogging and reading blogs on make up, fashion and nail polish, I can’t help but get as many stuff from the shops as my budget allows for (and more..). When I was at the drug store, I could fortunately limit myself to some face wash from Essence (which I will review if I’ve tested it a bit longer!), and this beautiful mono eye shadow from Catrice

Catrice_moss_01

It’s a gorgeous dark, mossy green (hence the name: Don’t touch my Mosserati) with a ton of sparkles! I usually tend to go for brighter shades, but a colour like this was seriously missing in my eye shadow collection.

Enough words, here are some more pictures of the swatch on my hand

Catrice_moss_02  Catrice_moss_04 (the first pic is made with one light on the right, last one is with on-camera flash)

And on my eyes (because who else but beauty bloggers puts eyeshadow on their hands..)

Catrice_moss_08 Catrice_moss_06 Catrice_moss_05

I find it kinda hard taking good (and flattering) pics of my eyes, but I hope this shows the eye shadow well. I used a bright green on the center and inside part of my eye, and the Catrice eye shadow on the outer edge and in the crease. I used my Essence superfine eyeliner pen in deep black, and a drug store mascara (Etos X-tra black volume mascara waterproof) for the rest of the eye look.

Catrice’s mono eye shadow Don’t touch my Mosserati (#640) costed me €2.99 and is available at various drug stores (Netherlands: Kruidvat and Trekpleister)

BPS Haul

Since I discovered BornPrettyStore (it’s like a DealeXtreme for beauty-stuff, haha!) I’ve ordered several things. Some of them were featured in my last blog post, and I recently bought some other items:

It’s just a small order, I just really wanted the nail polish and bought the other things since they were really inexpensive! I paid for most of it using their points, every point is worth 1ct and you can get them by ordering stuff, writing reviews and uploading photos/videos. I can really recommend this if you’re low on cash and want to buy some great budget items!

Cuticle cutter and file
There’s not a lot to say about this; it’s a file and cuticle cutter in one. The cutter is really sharp, and is great for removing dead skin and hangnails (which I get really often..). Luckily, it’s protected by a cap so you don’t cut yourself on accident. The file is quite fine and allows for a smooth finish on your nails. The pointy end is useful for getting the dirt out from under your nails.

Nail polish
I’m really glad I bought this polish before it sold out! It’s a beautiful metallic shade of light blue, which looks silver or blue depending on the light you’re in! It’s opaque in two to three coats (depending on the thickness) and the formula is very smooth and glides on easily. It’s absolutely packed with glitters and doesn’t need a top coat. I needed to shake the bottle vigorously, because  the formula wasn’t really consistent, but that’s a really minor thing. It does have a strange, but not entirely unpleasant smell to it. There is a darker blue version of the same/a similar polish (same brand and bottle), which you can find here. I’m planning on buying it because it looks lovely and I want to check if they’re similar.

Surprise gift bags
I bought two of these by accident, but since they’re so cheap and much fun to open (I love surprises), I was actually glad I got two!

The first pack contained a pair of false lashes, a small red lipstick, and a little mascara brush. I don’t have lash glue or a reason to wear the falsies yet, but they feel great and look awesome already. I’ve got a wedding coming up so I guess that’s a nice moment to try them on. The red lipstick is really tiny, but extremely bright and pigmented. I tested it on my hand and when I wiped it off, my hand was still red-ish. The mascara brush.. well it’s a brush 😛

Set 1

Set 1

The second set contains a black, loose eyeshadow (it can be bought in a set of 12 colours, which is on my wishlist!), a soft sponge and a pony mirror. I’m not used to working with powder eyeshadows (I only have pressed ones) but it’s very pigmented and I’m going to have to try it out soon! The sponge is very fluffy, but I haven’t found an use for it yet. The mirror is.. well.. let’s just say I’m not a big fan of ponies. Anyone want a cute little mirror..?

Well, that’s it for now! I’ve got a few items in my shopping basket already, I only need to collect a couple of more points to buy the items I want!
