Maybelline Color Show Acid Wash Effect in Ripped-Tide

I apologise for the long title! The name of this little gorgeous polish is just this long..

I also usually strive to upload my post in chronological order, and never compromising on quality with ‘just getting a post out’, but I just wanted to show this little beauty to you ๐Ÿ™‚

I bought this bottle at for โ‚ฌ3.99, because I had some coupons to spend (also bought nail strengthener, nail polish remover, a top coat, a brightening concealer, and a mattifying compact powder; might do some reviews on those things!) and its name is Ripped-Tide (247). It’s a cute bright blue jelly-like polish, with white ‘glitters’ in all sizes! I can distinguish 5 or 6 different sizes, with the largest glitters being about 2 millimeters in size!

The blue formula is very sheer though; I needed three coats to get some kind of opacity (and it wasn’t even fully opaque), but that was fine actually. It dried quick, and isn’t as bumpy as I’d expected it to be. Even the larger glitters lie relatively flat, and are easily evened out with a top coat. The sheer formula of the polish makes for a great layered-glitters-effect, I’m really loving it! I do suggest wearing it over a white or blue ย though, so the colours pop some more ๐Ÿ™‚

I can’t really comment on the wear time, I can’t even wear it for a full day but my nails are really terrible. I used a coat of the new strengthener, and the new top coat, but still I had massive chips and could peel off large chunks of the polish. But even with a base coat, some of the glitters stuck stubbornly to my nails!

To conclude, I’m quite happy with my purchase! It has a very unique look to it, and if this bright blue isn’t really your thing, they’ve got some other shades too, including a white glitter topper!

L’oreal Surprise Pack #2

As I mentioned in my previous post about a L’oreal box, I wasn’t completely satisfied with the contents: 3 lip products and one eye shadow. I sent a mail to the company, and they promised to send me some other products. When they arrived, there were, again, 4 products in the box! How great is that service? ๐Ÿ˜€

Without any further ado, here’s the lovely box:

Included in this box were:

  • Two HIP pigments, Showy (blues, 224) and Mischief (908)
  • Telescopic Explosion mascara in Blackest Black, waterproof (985, the one with the weird brush)
  • True Match Naturale Mineral-Enriched mascara, also in Blackest black (805)

I already had one of the HIP eyeshadow duos (Sassy), and I like it a lot! The colours blend well and are quite pigmented and buildable. The wear time is quite long, but on my oily lids, creasing is unavoidable.

L'oreal_test_2_04 L'oreal_test_2_03

These duos contain a matte and a shimmery shade, while the other (in the previous box) contained two metallicy shades. These also have a little sponge applicator and a mirror in a ‘secret’ compartment. Both shades were smooth to the touch and didn’t have much fallout, but it was very noticeable that the shimmery shades were more pigmented than the matte shades

L'oreal_test_2_06 L'oreal_test_2_05

The first swatch shows the colours after I build them up a bit, the second shows a one-finger-swipe-swatch. After I tried the shadows on my eyes and used a brush, the dark shades were much more intense (hello raccoon eyes :P) and looked great.

Now, onto the mascaras! I didn’t take proper pics of the second mascara, but it was nothing special. At least not compared to the Telescopic Explosion! I’ve never seen a brush like that..

L'oreal_test_2_07 L'oreal_test_2_08

The little brush head/ball is designed to precisely extend and separate the lashes, and to get into the corner of the eye and catch all lashes! I also like how the mascara tube comes separate from the brush, so everyone gets to appreciate the brush in all its glory ๐Ÿ˜€

Now, I’ve never made comparison pics before of my lashes, but I tried my best.. Left is without, right is with this mascara:

L'oreal_test_2_09 L'oreal_test_2_11

And from the side

L'oreal_test_2_10 L'oreal_test_2_12

I have quite black and long lashes myself, but this mascara gives a beautiful curl and adds some length. It promises a fanned-out effect on your lashes, and it delivers. No clumping, no lashes glued together. I love it!

The second mascara (I forgot to take separate pics.. oops) is the Bare Naturaleย Mineral-Enriched (quite a mouthful!), and apparently it’s a formula which contains aloe, vitamin E and jojoba oil. I don’t particularly care about the formula, so let’s move on to the lash shots! I do apologise in advance for my red eye. I got a little bit too excited with the cleanup and probably poked my eye or something.

L'oreal_test_2_13 L'oreal_test_2_19

L'oreal_test_2_14 L'oreal_test_2_20

The sun hide behind the clouds for the mascara shots, that’s why my pupils are dilated like mad!

I’m not very impressed by this mascara. It doesn’t do much for me, except from smudging under my eye, although I kind of have myself to blame for that because I’m super clumsy and pretty much smeared mascara all over my under eye area..

So, this concludes this review. I love how they sent me more products, even though I didn’t exactly ask for it! Big thumbs up for them ๐Ÿ™‚ I was really impressed by the Telescopic Explosion mascara, and I can never have enough eye shadow!

L’oreal surprise pack

I like deals, a lot! I check a page that has tons of daily deals and discounts pretty much every day, and my heart jumped a bit when I saw a deal for 4 L’oreal products for โ‚ฌ10!

After some doubt, I gave in a few minutes before midnight! A couple of days later, I got this little package in the mail

The products I got are, from left to right:

  • Colour Riche lipstick in the colour Pure Burgundy (746), which retails for about $9
  • High Intensity Pigments Concentrated Shadow Duo in the colour(s) Sassy (208), which retails for about $4-5
  • Infallible Lipcolour compact in the colour Merlot (710), which retails for about $12
  • Colour Juice Sheer Juicy Lipgloss in the colour Melon Punch (440), which retails for about $3

Now, I’m not a huge fan of lip products, and this box had 3 of them. Even though it was branded as a ‘surprise box’, I still kind of expected more variety, so I emailed the company, and they promised to send me some different products! Big thumbs up for their customer service ๐Ÿ™‚

Now, onto the reviews and swatches

At first you see the two colours of the eye shadow duo. They are branded as ‘High intensity pigments’ (HIP), but they are not really that stunningly pigmented. Don’t get me wrong, they’re good! I think I’ll get a lot of use of these, I absolutely love the colours, and didn’t really have anything like this in my stash.

L'oreal_test_10 L'oreal_test_11 L'oreal_test_12

I’m also in love with the packaging! The packaging is black and sturdy, and has a see-through window so you can see the colours. The bottom compartment has a tiny sponge applicator and a mirror! I only really found out by accident, because I opened the wrong ‘door’ ๐Ÿ˜› This makes the eye shadow duo great for travelling!

Now, onto the lip products. I don’t use many lip products, except the occasional lip balm and a bright red lipstick for proms and fancy events and such. This pack contained a lip stick, a very sturdy lipcolour and a gloss.

L'oreal_test_02 L'oreal_test_03 L'oreal_test_04

The lip stick is a lovely deep wine red, called ‘Pure Burgundy’. While this colour is very dark, I think I might wear this! It just looks very chique (just like the packaging <3), but the coverage isn’t perfect. I’m not too sure about the wear time because I didn’t keep it on for long, but the swatch on my arm wiped away pretty easily, so I guess it doesn’t last too long.ย This isย how it looked on my lips (keep in mind, I’m no hero at applying lip stick.. and I also have pretty small lips..). Left are my bare lips, right is with the Pure Burgundy lipstick.

L'oreal_test_17 L'oreal_test_18

It’s semi sheer as you could’ve already seen on the swatch, but it looks quite natural (as far as dark colours look natural xD)

The other lip product in this colour is the Infallible Lipcolour Compact in the colour “Merlot”, which is, obviously, also a wine colour.

L'oreal_test_07 L'oreal_test_08 L'oreal_test_09

The packaging is reflective and can double as a mirror. It contains two tubes that don’t come out entirely, but pop up so you can open them. The coloured tube contains the lip colour, and has a doe-foot applicator. I haven’t tried it on my lips, but I guess it applies pretty nice! The colour is very very intense, and doesn’t budge at all! It dries to a matte finish, and can probably feel very dry on the lips. To add some shine and moisture, they added a lip balm/sealer to seal in the colour. I haven’t actually tried it but it looks like it’d work very well! I’d wear this to a party, because it’ll last you all night!

The last thing in the box was a lip gloss. I have only bought very very cheap lip glosses in the past, and always hated how they felt on my lips..

L'oreal_test_13 L'oreal_test_14

From the packaging it seems like this is a very cheap gloss too, the round applicator doesn’t allow for precise application and just looks and feels cheap. The colour is very bright orange with a lot of shimmer, and the texture is quite thick. On my lips it does feel super sticky, but it’s better than any gloss I ever tried before. The orange isn’t as bright on the lips (see swatch) but the shimmer is pretty noticeable. I actually kind of like it! The name “Melon Punch” probably refers to the smell, because it’s nauseatingly sweet.. Normally I can stand everything sweet, but I just don’t really like it!

To conclude; I quite like the products I got, but I don’t think I’d use them a lot because lip products just aren’t much for me. I’m very curious about the products they’re going to send me, because I kind of startedย love L’oreal products!

Let me know if you liked this review, I tried to include as many photos and even showed my lips- something I’d never thought I’d do!

What’s been going on, and what’s coming up?

Hello all!

I am aware that I don’t post as often as I’d want to; ideally, I’d post twice or thrice a week, but I’m barely managing once a week these days.. I’m quite busy with studying, and I’ve got enough distractions as is. I do still get a lot of make up and stuff coming in, and I’ve got a LOT coming up!! I even made a list ๐Ÿ˜‰

A while ago, along with a NOTD, I posted about a nail polish set I won! I was ecstatic, but I found out I won even more! I won an Essence bag, filled to the rim with lovely products from DoorMariska , a Urban Decay (dupe/fake) from Femketje’s Blog, and mere minutes ago I found out I won something from MissPinkyNails too!! For someone who ‘never wins anything’ I’m getting quite lucky (note to self, buy lottery ticket)!!

So, of course, I’ll write a post about these things! Further coming up:

  • L’oreal surprise pack that I bought. 3 out of 4 products were lip products, so I sent an email (I was quite nice I think!) and they’re going to send me some new things! The review about the products I already have is almost ready, so expect that in the very near future.
  • Action lip sticks and eye shadow palette. Because it was dirt cheap
  • Action Foundations (same as before, might be one big post)
  • Old make up I have, because I have a lot of stuff I got as a kid or teenager, which might be interesting to review or at least talk about ๐Ÿ™‚
  • DIY project! I just made this, and it’s so easy, I think everyone should do it ๐Ÿ˜€

That’s it for now. If you’re not subscribed, do so on Bloglovin‘ or WordPress, to keep up to date with all posts coming!!

Which one are you most excited about? I really want to show you the DIY and stuff I won!!

Ebay haul #2

It’s been exactly a week since my first Ebay article went up, and I allowed myself to get some new things from Ebay!! Some things I needed, some things I wanted ๐Ÿ˜‰

1. Penguin USB stick

I think this might be the first auction item I ‘won’! I needed a USB stick (this one is 8GB) and I’m obsessed with penguins โค For only $4.31, I kind of wanted this! Shame you have to rip off his head to get to the drive, and there’s a little chain attached to the drive; to make sure you don’t lose the cap but just the drive! Very useful.. /sarcasm

It’s still adorable though โค And it arrived already! ๐Ÿ˜€

2. Nail art brushes

I love painting, and I love nail art! I’m not sure what I’m going to use these brushes for (they probably work great for detail painting too) but at just over 3 dollars for 15 brushes? Just HAD to have them!

3. Glass nail files

I haven’t particularly cared about my nails before, but they do peel and chip a lot. I previously used a metal or cardboard file, but everyone in the nail world seems to recommend glass ones, so of course I got searching ๐Ÿ˜‰ There are ones for a dollar on Ebay, but I thought getting more might get me a better deal, like these 4 for only $1.76 ๐Ÿ™‚ They arrived very quickly, and were all individually packaged. They didn’t come in a bubble wrap envelope, but they did survive the journey ๐Ÿ™‚

4. Ear plugs

Since I’m going to a festival this summer, I wanted to try out some cheap ear plugs. They probably don’t do a good job at isolating sound, but hopefully I’ll get them on time so I can test them! They also came with a nose clip for swimming, which might come in handy; I can’t swim under water without pinching my nose closed!! I think it’d look way too silly though..

5. Earphones

Tangled earphones, AUGH! I have to deal with tangled cords nearly every day. I hope to eliminate a little bit of that frustration by these earphones! I had seen them several times before but for around 10 euros. For just over 4 dollars, I kind of needed to buy this..

6. Replacement in-ear earbud thingies

I really did NEED these! I always lose them, and in-ear phones aren’t as comfy without ๐Ÿ˜› For a dollar you get a bunch of 10 so it’ll hopefully be a while before I run out

7. Stamping plates

Did I mention I love penguins? When I saw the penguin stamping plate, I got kind of crazy. HOW ADORABLE! The other plate has some cute patterns that I will hopefully use a lot ๐Ÿ™‚ I only have two stamping plates now so I could kind of justify getting two more ๐Ÿ˜‰ I really got my eyes on some MoYou plates though. Isn’t this pretty? Their plates don’t just feature separate patterns and images, but one big design with lots of patterns and things! โค

I’ll keep track of all shipping times, and add a table once I got everything!

One Dollar Ebay Haul

I recently purchased a couple of things from Ebay from around a dollar each. Since I’ve received everything nowThe mascara wand thingy never arrived! So that’s why this post is kinda late; I had it planned for like two weeks.. , I’ll share my experiences with my purchases! At first I’ll list the links to the items I got (I think they’re all still available), then I’ll review them, and at last I’ll see if I can find the exact prices and shipping times of all items.

What I got:

  1. Coin purse
  2. Watermelon Coin Purse
  3. Gel eyeliner with brush
  4. Mascara remover wand thingy (recommended by Klaire de Lys)
  5. Nail foils

  1. Coin purse

I had a really nice little coin purse I once bought from H&M, but the zipper broke! It was kind of worn for a while already, so I had been looking around everywhere but I just couldn’t find a decent little wallet that wasn’t too small or too big or too ugly.. So after finding out that my ‘little bag I keep money and stuff in’ was called a ‘coin purse’ I could look on ebay, and I found this little cutie. It’s a little small (I can only just fit my cards in, with a lot of effort), it’s still adorable.

2. Watermelon Coin Purse

Luckily, I also bought this ADORABLE slice of water melon that’s also a coin purse! I’ve been using this one since it arrived (I swapped it with the other purse which arrived a couple of days earlier) and it’s a bit bigger. I can even fit my phone in (like I could with my old purse) and I get a lot of ‘AHH!’s when I pull out my wallet ๐Ÿ˜€ Plus, I have this habit of holding my purse between my teeth when I have to pack my bag with groceries and stuff, so that probably looks hilarious ๐Ÿ˜‰

3. Gel eyeliner with brush

Of course, I didn’t expect much from an eye liner for a (Canadian, even) dollar, but since I didn’t have any gel liner and I wanted to try it before I spend a lot on a more expensive liner, AND couldn’t go wrong for under a dollar, I added it to my little list. I’ll review it properly later (I got some more liners to compare :)), but I can already tell you that the brush is just weird, and the gel has no staying power whatsoever. I also bought a very cheap liner from Action, which has a nicer looking brush. I’ll test them both in an article soon ๐Ÿ™‚

4. Mascara remover wand

I never cared for make up removal a lot. I sleep at my place and the bf’s place randomly, and I don’t want to have two of everything, so usually a bit of water has to do for removal. But this thingy is so cheap, I can buy several of them for everywhere ๐Ÿ™‚ Now just hope it arrives SOMEDAY

5. Nail foils

Oops. I didn’t actually mean to buy this, but I added it to my cart one day and forgot to take it out when I bought all these things at once! I’m in love with beautiful, shiny nails, and I know you can’t really get a mirror finish with regular polish, and for this amount of money I’m willing to give nail foils a try! I have no idea how to apply them (they didn’t come with instructions.. help?!) but I’ll try them for a special occasion sometime.

At last, here’s a table with prices (in USD) and shipping times to the Netherlands

Item Price (US$) Ships from Shipping time
Coin purse 0.99 Shenzhen, China Less than two weeks
Watermelon Coin Purse 1.22 Hong Kong ~two weeks
Gel eyeliner with brush 0.91 yiwu, zhejiang, China Don’t know ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Budget haul pt. 2: The swatches

A few days ago I told you about my recent haul of budget polishes. I promised swatches, so here they are!

Instead of regular swatches, I used every polish I got (I think) in a nail art and posted them to Instagram! At the end of this post I also got the book swatches for you too, to see all colours independently.

Essence 138 L.O.L. (the green) and Rimmel 703 White Hot Love from the Rita Ora collection

Both are opaque in 2 coats, and have a great texture! You can’t tell from this picture, but the white has a really fine shimmer in it!

On ring finger: NYC 320 Blue Sky, stamping with Rimmel 844 Out of the Blue and BPS stamping plate. On the rest of the fingers: Essence Blue Jeaned (liquid sand and slightly matte!)

Also all are opaque in 2 coats. Blue Jeaned could do with one coat, but two really bring out the colour. It’s also really easy to touch up if it chips a little because of the liquid sand structure ๐Ÿ™‚ Blue Sky has a bit of a weird formula, but the second coat evens the polish out perfectly. I wanted to add a matte top coat over the ring finger (and I did later) but I don’t have a good pic of it ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

The blue and yellow from the Action set, and my very first OPI polish (a black shatter)

The set of the yellow and blue polishes also came with a wheel of rhinestones, which I’ll use later this month! They were only โ‚ฌ1.19 for the set, so it couldn’t go wrong. Well, I was still surprised. Both were one coaters! I did use quite thick coats, and the yellow could’ve used a second, but for this price?! Wow! I applied the OPI shatter coat over two of the nails to see how it looked, and I left my pinky bare since it’s pretty badly damaged ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
