Nail Art Challenge: results and tutorial!

Hey all!

Two weeks ago I announced a Nail Art Challenge with the lovely Eva of InfinityΒ and Tessa of TessieeBeauty, and today it’s time to announce the winner!

Here’s the line up of awesome nail arts we made.. did you guess which one was mine?

1.1IMG_0982 2 (1)10639264_10154525612280262_137770639_o (1)

It was the most right one! Eva’s is the most left one, and Tessa made the one in the middle.

We tallied up your votes, and the winner is…

Tessa! With her lovely scalloped rainbow design πŸ™‚

Yay! Congrats πŸ™‚

I came in a close second, and Eva got the third place

I really loved all the designs, and I loved the whole idea of the challenge! Even though time was a problem sometimes (deadlinesdeadlinesdeadlines) we still all managed to make a gorgeous nail art.

Check out Eva’s and Tessa’s tutorials, and here’s mine:

Start by painting all of your nails an opaque coat of white, and let it dry completely (you might use a fast dry top coat to speed up the process)

Rainbow_nail_art_02

To exactly recreate the mani I made, tape your fingers in the way I illustrated above, but of course you are free to do whatever the hell you want! I used a large piece of washi tape on the moon of my thumb, and small pieces of striping tape. Then I made a criss-cross pattern on my ring finger. I decided to leave the other nails as it is, so the thumb and ring make a nice accent.

It’s also a good idea to either tape off your cuticles, or use a lip balm to protect your cuticles from the gradient we’re about to sponge on. I also have a neat little trick involving kids’ glue (Elmers’ glue) which I will post about soon πŸ˜‰

Now, the picture doesn’t exactly reflect how messy a gradient can get.. I painted 4Β colours (blue, green, yellow, orange) on a sponge, and just dabbed it on my nails. I used a cheap set of rainbow colours, reviewed here. Let it dry a little, apply more polish to the sponge, and go in with a second layer (if needed; the white base colour makes the polishes pop!)

Now, remove the tape! With the criss-cross pattern on the ring finger, make sure you remove the top piece of tape first, otherwise you’ll mess up your mani! (like I did..)

you can touch up some mistakes/uncovered areas with a small brush or toothpick and some polish in the corresponding colour.

Now, finish with a top coat to give everything a beautiful shine, and even out the gradient. Then remove all polish from your cuticles, and give them some love with a good hand/cuticle cream, and you’re all set!

So, I hope you all liked it (let me know!), and if this photoshopped-tutorial thingy is working out for you. I got the templates fromΒ http://blackcatnails.com/, check it out!

I’m back!

Hello all!

Even though I’ve been commenting and reading sporadically over the past week, now I’m officially back from my holidays in Rome and Morocco! I will of course talk a bit about those holidays in a while, and I’m going to be back to post about beauty-stuff very soon too!

I do have to start studying again unfortunately, so I won’t be posting any more than I did before (once a week) 😦

I did make some swatches and pictures, so I can focus on editing and writing πŸ™‚

Also, I did really grow out my nails during the holidays! Especially on my left hand (the swatch hand, haha) the nails got really long! Unfortunately, I OBVIOUSLY broke a nail the first time I went to sports practice again. I didn’t even participate in the training! *sigh*

Anyway, expect a post pretty soon!!

Β

ps. I WON ANOTHER GIVEAWAY! I now have a gorgeous MoYou stamping plate ❀

WINNING #2: Urban Decay Flushed Palette (fake)

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, I won a sh*tload of prizes the past few weeks! The first was a nail polish set (I still didn’t make proper pictures) that already featured in a NOTD, from IOnTrend, and this is the second!

It’s the Urban Decay Flushed Palette (a fake, though, but still gorgeous) with a bronzer, highlighter and a blush! I won this lovely giveaway from Femketje, I read her blog pretty much daily and I love it! πŸ™‚

Now, onto the beautiful palette:

I don’t have the original, but this already looks incredibly luxurious! The lid is secured with a magnet, it stays shut very well but you don’t need a lot of force to open it. And when you open it, you’re greeted by theseΒ beauties:

(sorry, pic should’ve been lighter. With constantly changing light conditions and me not being able to change the brightness of my screen I don’t have full control over this 😦 )

At first I was afraid that the colours would be too intense, but when I swatched them on my arm, they were pretty light:

From left to right I swatched the bronzer, highlighter and blush with my finger. I’m actually too tan on my arms for the bronzer at the moment! The highlighter gives a beautiful shine and the blush is lovely and subtle. I never really wear blush because I’m already quite flushed in my face and I’m afraid it makes me look like I’m really warm all the time, but this one is just perfect πŸ™‚ The bronzer doesn’t really show up on my skin, but it’ll give me a lovely bronzed glow in the winter!

Overall, I’m very happy with this palette, I didn’t have anything like this yet, and it simply looks and feels amazing!

What’s been going on, and what’s coming up?

Hello all!

I am aware that I don’t post as often as I’d want to; ideally, I’d post twice or thrice a week, but I’m barely managing once a week these days.. I’m quite busy with studying, and I’ve got enough distractions as is. I do still get a lot of make up and stuff coming in, and I’ve got a LOT coming up!! I even made a list πŸ˜‰

A while ago, along with a NOTD, I posted about a nail polish set I won! I was ecstatic, but I found out I won even more! I won an Essence bag, filled to the rim with lovely products from DoorMariska , a Urban Decay (dupe/fake) from Femketje’s Blog, and mere minutes ago I found out I won something from MissPinkyNails too!! For someone who ‘never wins anything’ I’m getting quite lucky (note to self, buy lottery ticket)!!

So, of course, I’ll write a post about these things! Further coming up:

  • L’oreal surprise pack that I bought. 3 out of 4 products were lip products, so I sent an email (I was quite nice I think!) and they’re going to send me some new things! The review about the products I already have is almost ready, so expect that in the very near future.
  • Action lip sticks and eye shadow palette. Because it was dirt cheap
  • Action Foundations (same as before, might be one big post)
  • Old make up I have, because I have a lot of stuff I got as a kid or teenager, which might be interesting to review or at least talk about πŸ™‚
  • DIY project! I just made this, and it’s so easy, I think everyone should do it πŸ˜€

That’s it for now. If you’re not subscribed, do so on Bloglovin‘ or WordPress, to keep up to date with all posts coming!!

Which one are you most excited about? I really want to show you the DIY and stuff I won!!

NOTD: World Championship and Birthday!

Hello all! It’s the 23rd of June, one of the longest days of the year, and lucky me: also my birthday! I’m not really doing anything special today, but tonight I’m going to watch football, since the Netherlands are playing against Chile.

I also got an early birthday gift on friday, when I received the colourful nail polishes I won from IOnTrend!

Image

Here’s the lovely set! I’m sorry for the camera phone pic, I haven’t gotten around editing the pics I made with my proper camera yet. I’ll do a review/swatch of the polishes later on! But first, I want to share my World-Cup-ready nails!

10499662_10154237655165262_1351374036_o

On my left hand I painted my pink and thumb with the gold (which has little orangey gold flakies!), and my middle finger with a bright in-your-face neon orange. For the flag, I sponged a red-white-blue gradient on my ring and pointy finger.

10486814_10154237655060262_476369228_o

On my right hand, I did the same for my pinky, middle finger and thumb, and tried something different on my ring and pointer. You’ve probably heard of- and maybe tried- the dry brush technique. You wipe off most of the polish on the edge of the polish bottle, wipe it some more on a piece of paper, and make light strokes over your nails so you get a little bit of polish on your nails. It’s easy to layer since it dries quickly because you barely put any polish on your nails.

I finished this mani with the top coat that came with the set. There was some minor chipping/tip wear, but with some touch ups, I got to wear it since friday already!

Are you and your nails ready for the World Cup?

Ebay haul #2

It’s been exactly a week since my first Ebay article went up, and I allowed myself to get some new things from Ebay!! Some things I needed, some things I wanted πŸ˜‰

1. Penguin USB stick

I think this might be the first auction item I ‘won’! I needed a USB stick (this one is 8GB) and I’m obsessed with penguins ❀ For only $4.31, I kind of wanted this! Shame you have to rip off his head to get to the drive, and there’s a little chain attached to the drive; to make sure you don’t lose the cap but just the drive! Very useful.. /sarcasm

It’s still adorable though ❀ And it arrived already! πŸ˜€

2. Nail art brushes

I love painting, and I love nail art! I’m not sure what I’m going to use these brushes for (they probably work great for detail painting too) but at just over 3 dollars for 15 brushes? Just HAD to have them!

3. Glass nail files

I haven’t particularly cared about my nails before, but they do peel and chip a lot. I previously used a metal or cardboard file, but everyone in the nail world seems to recommend glass ones, so of course I got searching πŸ˜‰ There are ones for a dollar on Ebay, but I thought getting more might get me a better deal, like these 4 for only $1.76 πŸ™‚ They arrived very quickly, and were all individually packaged. They didn’t come in a bubble wrap envelope, but they did survive the journey πŸ™‚

4. Ear plugs

Since I’m going to a festival this summer, I wanted to try out some cheap ear plugs. They probably don’t do a good job at isolating sound, but hopefully I’ll get them on time so I can test them! They also came with a nose clip for swimming, which might come in handy; I can’t swim under water without pinching my nose closed!! I think it’d look way too silly though..

5. Earphones

Tangled earphones, AUGH! I have to deal with tangled cords nearly every day. I hope to eliminate a little bit of that frustration by these earphones! I had seen them several times before but for around 10 euros. For just over 4 dollars, I kind of needed to buy this..

6. Replacement in-ear earbud thingies

I really did NEED these! I always lose them, and in-ear phones aren’t as comfy without πŸ˜› For a dollar you get a bunch of 10 so it’ll hopefully be a while before I run out

7. Stamping plates

Did I mention I love penguins? When I saw the penguin stamping plate, I got kind of crazy. HOW ADORABLE! The other plate has some cute patterns that I will hopefully use a lot πŸ™‚ I only have two stamping plates now so I could kind of justify getting two more πŸ˜‰ I really got my eyes on some MoYou plates though. Isn’t this pretty? Their plates don’t just feature separate patterns and images, but one big design with lots of patterns and things! ❀

I’ll keep track of all shipping times, and add a table once I got everything!

Spam!

Hello lovely readers! Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I’m working on several things but none are near finishing 😦

I just had an idea. Maybe you’ve seen my sidebar. It’s quite empty once you scroll down my page, and I want to change that! So, if you have a logo or ad of your blog, post an image url and your blog url in the comments, and I can add it to the sidebar! The only thing I ask in return is that you do the same (or you could pay me, haha :P) for me πŸ™‚ I haven’t made a logo yet but I will do this very soon. We’ll figure something out once you comment here πŸ™‚
